In my Pratt Institute Continuing and Professional Studies coursework, I was asked to 1) choose an influential designer or design movement from history and 2) in that style, design a typographically focused poster detailing 6 key points in someone's life while using as little imagery as possible. I became fascinated with the early design work of the Dadaist Kurt Schwitters, particularly his Merz publication, his Systemschrift typeface, and his all-over, puzzle-like approach to compositions. I wanted to challenge myself with the content of the poster, because of course God does not necessarily have 6 key life events. I took a Jungian archetypal approach to the writing, and allowed the typography and composition to create a poetic rhythm that gave the viewer an opportunity to find their way through the maze.
